Dr. Colleen Cathrae obtained her Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Guelph in 2004. She then spent a year working as an assistant at the Orono Veterinary Hospital and at a local horse farm before going off to veterinary school. She obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in 2009. Since graduating, she has worked in companion animal practices from outside Ottawa to the Kawartha and Northumberland regions. She has now returned to her roots and joined the team at our hospital, where her veterinary journey first began.
Dr. Colleen has a passion for preventative medicine as well as feline medicine. She thoroughly enjoys giving pet parents the guidance they need to help their furry loved ones live their healthiest, happiest lives. She is also passionate about medical cases, getting to the bottom of what is making her patients unwell, and finding effective treatments to help them feel like themselves again.
After growing up on a farm just outside of Orono, Dr. Colleen moved to the Millbrook area in 2017 with her husband, Brad, and their son, Kaladin, to be closer to her twin sister and Kaladin’s cousins. They also share their home with three very spoiled feline fur babies: Slater, Mars, and Jellybean. The latter two are her first personal experience with purebred cats, and are Highlander Lynx; Slater was rescued from the barn at her parents’ farm while she was in vet school. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Together, they love outdoor activities such as camping and swimming in the summer, and skating and making “snow kitties” in the winter.
